When you say Austria you almost instantly think about winter sports and culture. These are the best two words that can perfectly describe this attractive country. Austria is located in Central Europe, surrounded by Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Italy.Austria is also known for its rich cultural heritage. This could be seen on the pride that the locals have for its brilliant palaces and buildings, their love for the Waltz and their homage to the classical composer and child prodigy Mozart. Whether you are traveling to Austria alone, with friends or with your family, here are just some helpful tips to make you get the most out of your trip to this magnificent country.

Once you travel to Austria, start your travel unraveling the beauty of the Alps Mountains. These mountains are world popular for their unmatched serene beauty and that is why they are referred as eye soothers.Hiring a car and driving in Austria will also make it easier for you and your family to vary your holiday activities. For instance, if you’re in Austria primarily on a skiing holiday, hiring a car will also make it possible for you to drive to nearby hiking trails or go rock climbing. Alternatively, you could drive to one of Austria’s main cities, like Vienna, Innsbruck or Salzburg, and take pleasure in the range of musical, theatrical or artistic offerings in Austria’s centres of culture.

Austria travel endows the visitors with a magical experience, with the snow-capped mountains, its slopes, the Apres-Ski and the Austrian “Gemuetlichkeit”. Of the Austrian tourist industry, the winter sports tourism is now a billion euro industry, with many of the cities becoming flourishing tourist spots. Skiing of the many winter sports is the most popular and Austria has a very high number of ski resorts catering to the needs of the tourists.Hohe Tauern National Park is another popular tourist destination. You can travel up to the site by car. It covers an area of about 1786 sq km and is one of the largest in Europe. Austria’s highest mountain Grossglockner lies in the heart of this protected sanctuary of flora and fauna. Even the road through the park can be said to be most beautiful in the world.

A visit to the mountains of Austria is something you will never forget. Innsbruck is the center of a large skiing area throughout the Tirol region, and is guaranteed to warm the heart of any mountain and snow enthusiast. The best ski season is from Christmas to late February, with good snow available on either side of those months. If you want to see the glory of the mountains in the warmth of summer, then visit in May or June. It will certainly be a lot quieter then.Visiting Austria for a day or two during a whistle stop tour of Europe really doesn’t do it justice. Although I’ve mentioned a few highlights, there are so many more wonderful places to visit if you really want to get a true feeling for this stunning country.

Product Description
Renowned travel authority and NBC Today show travel editor Peter Greenberg shares his insider secrets.

Americans now travel more than ever before. Yet as our traveling has increased, the service we receive from airlines, hotels, and other agencies has deteriorated dramatically. Industry surveys reveal what you already feel: growing dissatisfaction among travelers of every age, income, and education level. We’ve been abused by the travel experience. Peter Greenberg is here to help. The Travel Detective tells you the things most travel agents can’t — or sometimes just won’t — tell you. In his characteristic friendly and conversational tone, Greenberg tells how to find the secret walk-up fares that can save air travelers hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on last minutes flights; which coach seats on which planes are better than first class; the secret rule to know to avoid being bumped from a flight, which cruise ship brochures lie; which credit card companies are fastest — and slowest — to come to your aid in a foreign land, or worse, in the U.S.,; which hotels have the best — and the worst — fire and crime safety records, and how you can protect yourself; how to negotiate the best hotel room deal; which hotels have the worst water pressure in their showers (and better yet, how you can get great water pressure, even at those hotels); and much, much more. Accessible and entertaining, The Travel Detective gives you the information and tools you need to make every trip an affordable pleasure.Amazon.com Review
The good news, according to travel writer Peter Greenberg, is that Americans are traveling more than ever before. The bad news is that we hate the process–the delayed flights, lost suitcases, overhyped cruises, and overpriced hotel rooms. We are a nation of unhappy but addicted travelers, doomed by our own inadequate travel planning and geographical ignorance. Never fear, though, the original savvy traveler has written the guide to end all guides on how to get to your destination and have a good time, too, by beating the airlines, hotels, cruise lines, and rental car agencies at their own games, playing by their own rules.
Greenberg is hands down the right man for the job. Here is a guy who, just for laughs, checked in a double porcelain sink as a carry-on, crisscrossed the country on six different airlines over two days to see if the flights would be on time, and tested credit-card company claims of offering global assistance in an emergency by getting stuck in a ghost town in Death Valley. Not only that, he’s traveled to 120 of the world’s 187 countries.

A tourist, says Greenberg, is a victim waiting to happen. The travel world is full of ridiculous and draconian rules, but there are no shortages of ways to finesse them. You just have to know what to avoid and how to ask the right questions. Greenberg explains how to get the cheapest fares, beat the Saturday-night-stay requirement, and the importance of Rule 240. He tells you the truth about frequent-flyer programs, where the secret flights and even secret seats are, and how to avoid being a PAWOB (passenger without bags). He’s got tips for traveling with kids and pets, and the truth about the safety of infants flying on laps (as well as that infamous first-class flying pig). Once you’ve made it to your destination, he’ll fill you in on the best time to call to get the lowest hotel rates, the right question to ask to get a room with good water pressure, and how to avoid hotel and rental-car rip-offs. He’s even got advice for finding a cruise that lives up to its seductive description. This is one useful, fun, and readable guide. –Lesley Reed

Whether we want to run away from our usual busy schedule or take some time off from the usual drama of everyday life, we know that the best way to outrun a stressful life is by taking a vacation. For Americans in particular, traveling every once in a while has become a great necessity. However, with the dismal state of the economy, taking a vacation is currently considered leisure for the wealthy.

Indeed, though there is partiality in the truth that traveling is a luxury intended for the financially able, monetary reasons are not the only ones in existence that tie a person to his house and to the life he needs to live. Some of us, though able, choose not to extract ourselves from the stress and anticipations we so wearily face everyday due to force of circumstances- of responsibility or guilt perhaps, or other prevailing reasons which for the moment, perhaps due to lack of age or experience or knowledge and understanding, remain unknown to me.

Previously, a couple of years before entering the workforce and lending my undivided time and attention to my job, the society, my family and the responsibilities that go with them, I have resigned myself to believing that traveling is indeed a luxury, fitted only for kings and queens, and barons and baronesses of times past. Of course, like the turning of the hour, my perspective quickly changed when I have experienced, suffered and endured the many anxieties and strains of young adulthood. Especially at this day and age, when finding a ray of light amidst clouds of worries and happiness through simple pleasures seems like a civilization and a dream away, we all need a grand gesture of escape- a lasting experience whose sensation will remain embedded on our dull grey matters long after our senses have died out.

Writers, poets, philosophers and other intellectual people have written these words before, and in this sense I will never claim that any of my ideas are unprecedented or in any way scholarly. It is time we face the fact that traveling, due to force of circumstances, has become inevitable for us. And with this, I encourage everyone to embrace the situation and make the best out of it. Social and occupational pressures exist so long as people, families, governments, societies and responsibilities do. Let us try to see the every good we can gain through traveling- the experiences we shall meet, the sensations we shall feel and the people we shall learn from. Trivial, these things might be to the practical, it is bound to have an undying appeal to the open-minded and the wise.

Singapore is a small country in size but an economic giant especially in South East Asia. Singapore is situated at the south tip of Malaysia, just one degree north of the equator.

The city is a blend with the culture and religions of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and European. The four main religions are celebrated by the different ethnicity and the auspicious day like Muslim celebrating the end of Ramadan, Vesak day for the Buddhist, the festival of lights celebrated by Hindus, Christmas and Easter for the Christians, New Year Day and the Lunar New Year celebrated by the Chinese are officially public holiday for all. Food is a passion to many and a very much talk about topic amongst the locals due to the wide selections of multi ethnic food and European cuisines.

Though it is relatively easy to get around in Singapore, it is always good to find out some useful information before you begin your travel. Here are some useful travel tips for Singapore:

Visas for Singapore

All travellers to Singapore are required to go through immigration clearance upon their arrival into the country. The granting of social visit passes to visitors is determined by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at the point of entry. Visitors must satisfy the following basic entry requirements before they are allowed to enter Singapore:

A passport with at least 6 months validity Valid Singapore visa, if applicable Sufficient funds to last for the intended period of stay in Singapore Confirmed onward/return tickets (where applicable) Entry facilities to their onward destinations, e.g. visas. Completed Disembarkation/Embarkation Card Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, if applicable

Electricity connection in Singapore

Visitors to Singapore must check if their electrical appliances can handle the voltage of 220-240 volts AC, 50Hz. The power plugs used in Singapore are of the three-pin, square-shaped type. If your electrical device does not accept the voltage and the appliance plug shape is different, you will need a voltage converter and a plug adapter. However, most hotels in Singapore will provide transformers to visitors with electrical appliances of a different voltage when requested.

Sales tax refunds in Singapore

The Goods and Service tax in Singapore is 5%. To qualify for sales tax refunds, you need to have a minimum purchase amount ranging between SGD$300 to SGD$500. To claim your GST refunds, pack the items in hand luggage, and present the item(s) and the receipt at the Global Refund Services after immigration and security when leaving Singapore. Also allow an extra 15 minutes before departure. The refund payment can be made by cash, credit card payment or cheque. A small handling fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

A woman should always take a special care about her safety and security during a journey. While getting ready for the journey there are some tips that can come in handy. Always remember to make a list of what is needed during the journey. In this way travelers can minimize the possibility of forgetting the things they need the most and even if luggage has been misplaced or stolen; there is always a list of what is lost in hand.

It’s easier to stick to a one color theme during a journey. Then the number of clothes and the amount of accessories needed is less. You can always be a fashionista even with those dull colors by wearing bright colored accessories. It is a good idea to wear something similar to what the locals would wear. This gives women a higher level of security as they will not draw too much attention to themselves.

During a journey the most common problem that arises especially for women is the wrinkling of clothes. To avoid wrinkling of clothes, when packing the harder garments like jeans, those should be packed together with harder clothes while softer clothes like cotton tops should be packed with soft clothes.

Jewelry should be packed separately. They should be wrapped in tissue paper and placed in a bag with a zipper. To avoid chains getting tangled, they can be feed through straws and sealed at both ends.

Those small things you are worried about being broken can be wrapped in socks and packed inside shoes for the extra care needed. Travel Kits containing face cream, lip balm, aspirin, ear plugs and eye masks is a must have for the female traveler.

With all these tips what matters most is the way you look. If the traveler looks confident, the probability of getting into a trouble is very low.

On the other hand finding a safe and comfortable hotel is the one of the many travel tips women should keep in mind. Shangri La Hotels and Shangrila Resorts-corporate provide the comfortable and secure experience required during a stay at any of their hotels.
